Parent Meetings

We have two meeting options available for parents to attend.  The first meeting  is Wednesday September 21 8-8:30p.  The second option is October 2 7:30-8p.

At these meetings we will be talking about how the olbc’s youth community works.  We will also be highlighting some of the things we have planned for the youth community along with pointing out some of the tools that we have available to you and we will also have some time for Q & A.

My hope is that we can create a partnership and work towards helping your children through these formative years. I hope to see you at one of these meetings.

Media and Parents

Media.  What comes to mind when you hear this word?  Media is all around us.  Media is a great way to share ideas. Teens and Adults also consume a lot of media.  When it comes to leading, teaching, and guiding your child in the area of media use, how do you handle it?  Here is a video that deals with this issue.

Do you agree with this method?  What have you learned from your experience?  How do you think God wants us to handle this issue?  Do we tell our children “my way or the highway?” Do we let them make media decisions all on their own? Or do we equip our children to interact with media in a godly way?

Hello

I wanted to take a minute to let you know a little bit about me, Paul Gaspar.

I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago. I moved around a lot as a child because my parents would flip houses.  Not the way you see on TLC and what not.  We would actually move in and live in the house as my parents would make improvments.  So that meant the longest we lived in a house before  moving was about 2 years.

During this time of moving all over the place my family pretty much stayed put at one church.  As long as I can remember my parents would bring me and my siblings to church.  I am the oldest of four, 2 sisters and 1 brother.

I remember one evening sitting on the stairs of our house with my mom.  I was asking her questions about Jesus.  It was during this time I started my relationship with Jesus.  I believe I was around 6 or 7.  Church continued to be a part of my life but I really started to grow after my parents moved out to Ottawa, IL. (They finally decided to stay put)

There I was actively involved in a youth group and had a few adults help me grow as a follower of Christ.  In my senior year of high school I  felt God was calling me to go into full time ministry to work with youth.  I attend Moody Bible Institute and graduated with my B.A. in youth ministry.

I then married my beautiful wife Rachel and started working at Oak Lawn Bible Church in September 2002.  I am also a father of a energetic son.

I’m here to try and help you as you navigate your children through the difficult years of adolescence.  I’m also trying to be another positive, caring, loving, adult that will help them on there journey to having a relationship with Jesus and becoming an adult.

I’m looking forward to what God has in store for us.

Paul
